Introduction To ISO 9001:2015 Standard

ISO 9001:2015 Introduction

ISO 9001:2015 standard should act as a strategic step for any organization to improve its business performance and lay the foundation for sustainable development.

The overall requirements of adopting ISO 9001 based quality management system include the following:

  1. Provide a process to determine and meet/exceed customer requirements.
  2. Determine the applicable statutory and regulatory requirements related to the product and/or services.
  3. Trigger the development of a strategic plan by identifying and focusing on relevant internal and external issues including the stakeholders.
  4. Require you to establish quality management system drivers such as quality policy and quality objectives for the overall direction for your quality management system.
  5. Help your organization achieve customer satisfaction to sustain and enhance its customer base.
  6. Introduce a process approach concept to identify processes related to various functions/departments within your organization.
  7. Compliment the process approach concept with a risk-based thinking to design prevention within your processes and eliminate “firefighting”.
  8. Provide a comfort level to your stakeholders in terms of due diligence and liability.
  9. Require the top management to identify, understand, and deliver their due role within the management system i.e., intended outcomes of your quality management system.
  10. Lay the framework for process and product measurements to achieve conformance and effectiveness.
  11. Require the understanding of risk-based thinking to minimize prescriptive requirements for documented information but instead put the onus on your company to determine the required documented information based upon process identification and subsequent risk assessment.
  12. Require the top management to engage itself with the quality management system through predefined inputs and clearly spelled out action plan with responsibilities and timelines.
  13. Wrap up the overall quality management process to drive continual improvement through a set of drivers.
